The Acting General Manager, FCT Water Board, Dr (Mrs) Joy Patience Okoro, has been accused of attempting to illegally extend her tenure.
The accusation was made in a letter dated January 18, 2022 addressed to the FCT Minister, signed by Comrade Sikiru Waheed, General Secretary of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE)
According to the letter, Mrs Okoro is due to retire in April and should have proceeded on the mandatory three months pre-retirement leave since January 15, 2022, but she is still in service to date.
AUPCTRE said that her refusal to proceed on pre-retirement leave, is a breach of the Extant Public Service Rules, which provides that officers are required to give three months’ notice to retire from service before the effective date of retirement.
The union, therefore, appeal to the FCT Minister, to urgently take action that will provide for smooth administrative operations in the Board and douse industrial tension.
