DSS Begs Court To Frustrate IPOB Lawyer

Hon. Justice Z.B. Abubakar of the FCT High Court Abuja, had on 4th April ordered that the DG State Security Service, the State Security Service, be jointly and severally be caused to pay the Appellant, Maxwell Opara, Esq, the sum of N5,000,000 (Five Million Naira) Only and a written apology be published by the respondents in 1(One) National Daily Newspaper for the unwarranted infringement of Bar. Maxwell Opara’s fundamental human rights.

Bar. Maxwell Opara, one of the lawyers to illegally detained leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu had approached the court alleging that on 30th August, 2022 during his visit to his client in the facility of the respondents, he was bodily searched wherein; DSS operatives forcibly removed his belt, medicated glasses, wedding ring, jacket, shoes and subjected him to the humiliation of holding his trousers with his hands, wearing bathroom slippers meant for awaiting trial inmates and exposed him to Air Condition for 3hrs.

Being dissatisfied by the ruling of the Hon Court, the DSS has approached the Court of Appeal and consequent upon that, on 14th October, DSS brought a motion to the FCT High Court begging that; the Court stays the execution of its Order and Order that Maxwell Opara by himself, his agent, privy and/or anybody else be stopped from executing in any manner or by any means the Judgment of this Hon. Court, pending appealed filed at the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division.
