It will be assumed here that we all know that economics is the management of scarce resources to meet needs of the person concerned.
Adultery on the other hand, is the sexual congress, intercourse between two or more partners; a sexual partnership that has at least one of the partners legitimately married and his/her legitimate partner is not involved in that sexual act.
Since one partner must be involved in an ongoing marriage, for adultery to be enjoyed, it must not be done in matrimonial home but in a love nest which often belongs to the unmarried participant. Location of this love nest is often some fuel consuming distance outside the normal operational environment of the adulterer (Jurisdiction), where he operates as a respected family member or elder in the community. Where the unmarried participant does not have a self-contained apartment (Owner-occupier) outside jurisdiction, hotel and Inns become a choice rendezvous place.
If adultery is to be done at Owner-occupier, the married partner must provide cash to service the apartment. This cash ranges from money for fuel to power the air-conditioner, ice drinks to outright renewal of rent. In Abuja and other towns where such activities take place, the amount to be spent is not less than N50,000(Fifty Thousand Naira)Only per week, depending on how itchy your 3rd leg is.
If in a hotel, depending on the status in life of the adulterer or the impression he/she wants to give, it will cost between N7,000 to N25, 000 for a Studio room in an average good hotel in any town’s suburb.
These costs above are not to the exclusion of drinks, food and her transportation to the rendezvous. It becomes double, if she came with her friend(s) who are not interested in threesome but to escort her to the slaughter.
The effect of economics on adultery is clear, when you hear men and women agree that man is a polygamous animal (This is wrong. Men are actually Poly-erotic i.e, have desire to have more than one sexual partner without necessarily wanting to marry more than one woman). If it is in the nature of man to be polygamous, how have most men been able to tame this animalistic tendency and nature?
Most men have done this mental calculation and their economics have made it difficult for them to engage in adultery, not that they don’t want to or find anything morally wrong with it. Their abstinence is not due to fear of God’s punishment or being caught by their wives but their economics cannot drive such lifestyle. Their earning powers have reduced them to philosophers against adultery.
When next you see a man strenuously preaching against adultery, check his bank account, he is a broke ass guy.
For my religious brothers, how come it is only when a Pastor becomes mega rich that we hear of his adultery in foreign lands?
