About 113 of the 398 passengers in the ill fated Abuja-Kaduna train, boarded at Kubwa station. This information is deciphered from the manifest published by Nigerian Railway Cooperation.
All these 113 are not residents of Kubwa but Kubwa train station on Kubwa-Byazhin road, opposite old Daughters of Charity Hospital, is a preferred station for those living in Gwarinpa, Maitama, Asokoro, Nyanya and Keffi.
The preference is because, Idu, the final destination of the train, is far from town. But Kubwa Express gives easy access to the above mentioned.
They leave their cars at Kubwa and board the train. This evening when we visited the station, it was eerie like a grave yard and the parked cars sparkling like headstones over a grave. These cars, we were told, belongs to some of these 113 passengers who are yet to return to Abuja.
According to NRC and Kaduna state government, a good number of the passengers are unaccounted for while survivors, who are receiving treatment in Kaduna hospital, said that a good number of the passengers were herded into mini buses and taken away.
