Kubwa is relatively secured and peaceful compared to most satellite towns in Abuja.
But this year, there were serious incidents that left the residents gasping for breath.
Ritual Murder. In June, a Bishop and his son, a pastor were involved in ritual murder of member of their church, Freedom Chapel, Bazango.
Kidnapping. Kubwa witnessed some acts of kidnapping but the most notorious, took place on December 6th. Kidnappers to corps member, 7 others in Kubwa while a tailor was killed.
The most porous part of Kubwa this year, is the range of hills, stretching from Millionaire Quarters in Byazhi to Brick Estate. This range of is located very close to Kukwa extension two. Residents lament daily of criminal activities around their estate and that the perpetrators, easily cross the hills into Niger State.
Another flashpoint this year, is Pipeline. This stretches from Byazhi Junction by Kubwa Central Market to NNPC filling station at Arab Road-Mango Bus stop.
Residents were routinely robbed. In Feb, an 11 year old girl, was raped by armed robbers, who had a field day, breaking into houses for over 3 hours.
In PW-Federal Housing part of Kubwa, residents lament incessant stealing of car batteries and other accessories. But as the year winds down, the stealing has graduated from batteries to breaking into people’s houses to steal valuables.
It is believed that they use Monday hammer to break through fences and perimeter walls to gain access to the houses.
A police office we spoke with, while pleading for anonymity, acknowledged this rising crime rate in Kubwa.
He said the Kubwa Police Command, is aware of these flashpoints and will beef up surveillance during this Yuletide.
