Often times, who we remember are the past NBA Presidents and not the other members of the Executive Council that worked with him.
These executive members, only get mentioned in NEC bundles where they statutorily carry out their duties. Their pictures are also seen in brochure of NBA programs. Beyond this, hardly is anything known of them.
I had to dig deep into NBA archives to sniff out scanty information about the incumbent and past 5 Publicity Secretaries of NBA. NBA website, should have an archive section, where previous documents, records of past executives and their activities can be gotten at the click of the mouse or finger. Even Google is not helpful in giving quality information about these executives.
Dr. Rapuluchukwu Nduka; is the incumbent Publicity Secretary of NBA (2020-2022). Like the publicity secretaries before him, he has dignified the office, properly branding the image of the NBA and a worthy spokesperson of his principal, NBA and its alter ego, Olumide Akpata, Esq. Rapuluchukwu is a graduate of Abia State University, Uturu and was called to Bar in 2005. He obtained Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Cyber-Law from the University of South Africa, Pretoria in 2020.
Kunle Edun; incumbent Welfare Secretary (2020-2022) before his elevation, Kunle was the NBA Publicity Secretary (2018-2020) under the presidency of Paul Usoro, SAN. A graduate of Ogun State University, Ago-Iwoye, called to Bar 1999.
2012-2014 had Afam Obi as the Publicity Secretary of NBA, under the presidency of Okey Wali, SAN.
Gbolahan Gbadamosi, Esq; holds a Bachelor Degree in History/Political Science from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife; Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication and a Bachelors Degree in Law both from the University of Lagos. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002. He served as Publicity Secretary under Augustine Alegeh, SAN (2014-2016)
John Austin Unachukwu, Esq became Publicity Secretary via the court in SUIT NO: FCT/HC/CV/241 I /2016 after he was disqualified. Until the court pronounced him the valid unopposed candidate for the post of Publicity Secretary, NBA had no substantive Publicity Secretary. He served for less than 2 years under Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, SAN.
A graduate of the best university in Nigeria-Lagos State University(LASU), he was called to Bar in 2004. He is still active promoting image of the Bar with his weekly section in major national dailies.
During the presidency of Josef B Daudu, SAN, Emeka Obegolu, Esq FICMC, FCIArb (UK), now SAN, was the Publicity Secretary (2010-2012).
He excelled and was rewarded by the Bar with more hard work in the post of General Secretary under Okey Wali (2012-2014)
Emeke Obegolu, SAN was called to Bar in 1999 and he took silk in 2021.
Chief Emeka JP Obegolu, FICMC, FCIArb (UK), SAN, Agbawodikeizu-Obeledu, Akajiugo Anaocha, is a man of many parts and among the past Publicity Secretaries of the Bar, he has shown consistent Bar presence, activities and dominant magnet in the politics of NBA.
These distinguished Publicity Secretaries, served the Bar and the Bar’s president well.
The tradition and convention of this noble service to the Bar, is expected to continue, as batton will be handed over by Dr Nduka to the next Publicity Secretary during the AGM, holding in Lagos, at the end of the Annual NBA Conference 2022.
