The Nigerian Law Society is deeply disturbed, saddened and strongly condemn the abduction of Hon. Justice Ebiyerin Goodness Omukoro, of the Bayelsa state judiciary.
This unfortunate incidence is a gross violation of the Nigerian constitution 1999 (as amended) and it is not only a threat to democracy and democratic principles but also a threat to rule of law and justice in our country.
We unequivocally demand his immediate release, and call on the relevant authorities to take immediate and decisive action to secure his release and bring the perpetrators to justice. The safety and security of our judges is paramount to the effective administration of justice and the maintenance of public trust in our institutions.
We urge the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect the judiciary and uphold the rule of law, ensuring that those responsible for this dastardly act are held accountable.
We stand in solidarity with Justice Omukoro’s family, colleagues, and the entire judiciary, and pray for his safe and speedy release.”
