CONDOLENCE MESSAGE TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN NIGERIA ON THE DEMISE OF HIS HOLINESS, POPE FRANCIS.
Grace and Peace be multiplied to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
With profound sorrow and deep respect, the Nigerian Law Society (NLS) extend our heartfelt condolences to the Catholic Church in Nigeria and the global Catholic family. We stand united in our grief over the passing into eternal glory of His Holiness, Pope Francis.
Pope Francis, a shepherd after God’s heart, was marked by humility, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to justice, mercy, and the Gospel of Christ. His life and papacy were a powerful testament to Christ’s love, especially for the poor, the marginalised, and the forgotten. His voice, often raised in defence of peace, human dignity, and care for creation, has left an indelible mark on this generation and the Church Universal.
While we mourn his passing, we do so with hope. As the Apostle Paul wrote, ‘For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus’ (1 Thessalonians 4:14). We are grateful to God for the gift of Pope Francis’s life and ministry, a life poured out in service to God and humanity.
CONDOLENCE MESSAGE TO ALL CATHOLIC CHURCH IN NIGERIAMay his legacy of unity, compassion, and faithful devotion to Christ serve as a beacon, guiding all Christians and people of goodwill. We pray especially for the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, the clergy, religious, and laity who now mourn a beloved spiritual father and moral guide.
May the Holy Spirit comfort, strengthen, and fill you with peace, as we all strive to uphold these shared values.
As you celebrate his life and commend his soul into the eternal embrace of the Father, please know that we stand with you in prayer, love, and unwavering solidarity during this difficult time.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
And let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace. Amen.
With deepest sympathy and in Christ’s love,
