African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) Elects New Exco Amidst Crisis

After attempts to disrupt the inauguration of the new executive of AWLA, with the use of police and thugs, were aborted, the following persons, were sworn in, to manage the affairs of AWLA.Mrs. Caroline Ibharuneafe, President;
Mrs. Felicia Nwaobi, Vice President;
Mrs. Oise Perpetua Chigbue, Secretary;
Mrs. Julie Lisa Onyeagba, Treasurer;
Mrs. Nnenna Anozie, Financial Secretary,
and Mrs. Monica Abiton Okorodudu Akinuli, Welfare Officer.
Crisis erupted at the  inauguration ceremony when the AWLA Nigeria President Efe Etomi, was denied access by ‘thugs’ allegedly mobilized by AWLA International President and Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Third Vice President Amanda Asagba. Police officers from Ilupeju Police station were invited to save the day and allow the inauguration. Ms Asagba, has denied hiring thugs rather she alleged that she was suing for peace and wanted the inauguration to be done in accordance with the AWLA Constitution.
