The theme for this year 2023 is”Together for trust, collaborating for a safe and connected future.”

The main aim of the World Post Day is to raise awareness about the role and importance of the Postal Services in people’s lives.It is also a day set aside to Foster global communications amongst the 192 members of the Universal Postal Union (UPU).
One celebrated activity is the decorating of the winners of the letter writing competition with their respective medals; gold, silver and bronze.It is also a day the United Nations appreciate Postal workers for their commitments and contributions to the social and economic development of Nations.
The World Post Day is a time members of the UPU use the event to promote new Postal products and services,rewards customers and employees who have excelled in executing their duties.
At the just concluded Universal Postal Union fourth Extraordinary Congress held in Riyadh Saudi Arabia from the 1-5 October 2023,an African from Kenya; Claire Gakii 13years won the first position and was decorated with the gold medal by the Director General of the Universal Postal Union Mr Masahiko Metoki.
The second position silver was awarded to a Portuguese girl Matilde Magalhaes Da Silva whose is 11 years old.The third position is to another girl of 12years old Dao Khuong Duy from Vietnam.
Special mentions were awarded to young writers from Brazil,Cyprus,India, Oman and United Arabs Emirates.
The theme for the 52nd 2023 International Letter Writing Competition is :- Imagine you are a superhero and your mission is to make all roads around the world safer for children; write a letter to someone explaining which super powers you would need to achieved your mission.
The World Post Day started in 1969 in Tokyo,Japan.
The day is an International day that occurs each year on October 9 which is the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union which started in 1874 in Berne Switzerland.
Nigeria has been a member of the Universal Postal Union since 10 July 1961
The Universal Postal Union is one of the oldest Agency of the United Nations.
