To mark the World Against Child Labour and Day of the African Child 2023, Nneamaka Onyema, Esq., Kubwaexpress legal columnist, joined the WOTCLEF team on a visit to JSS Gwarimpa, Abuja and reports.
Women Trafficking and Child Labour Eradication Foundation (WOTCLEF), reached over 50 pupils 6 teachers through its School Club as it marks the WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR and the DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD at Junior Secondary School Gwarinpa, Abuja on WEDNESDAY 14TH JUNE, 2023.
The themes are; SOCIAL JUSTICE FOR ALL: END CHILD LABOUR, ELIMINATING HARMFUL PRACTICES AFFECTING CHILDREN, respectively.Child labour refers to the exploitation of children through any form of work that deprives them of their childhood, interferes with their ability to attend regular school, and is mentally, physically, socially, and morally harmful. WOTCLEF is an anti-human trafficking organisation working towards eliminating human trafficking and child labour in Nigeria.
Her areas of focus are: human trafficking, child labour, abuse of the rights of women and children through rescue and rehabilitation of victims, psycho-social support, advocacy, public enlightenment, reproductive and sexual health, youth development, rehabilitation, re-integration etc.
WOTCLEF is a not-for-profit non-governmental organization established in 1999 and registered in April 2000 as an Incorporated Trusteeship under the Nigeria Law with the Corporate Affairs Commission with registration number: 12,811, with DUNs and SCUMUL.
Her core values are:
1.Dignity – Every human deserves to be treated with respect. The self worth of trafficked persons and other Vulnerable groups must be restores.
2. Respect Rights of all members of the society – The fundamental human rights are gifts from God that must be respected by everyone
3. Transparency & Accountability – Reports to all relevant stakeholders, carry out operations in accordance to laid down rules.
4. Integrity – Free from corruption in administering funds, and implementing activities and programmes
5. Team Work in execution of its mandate WOTCLEF’s Survivors are speakers and Ambassadors on radio, television and even SCALE Palladium Youth CTIP Advocates.
