Gunmen suspected to be terrorists on Monday, along Kubwa-Bwari road, attacked Guards Brigade, wounding 3 soldiers.
Signal about the attack, intercepted by newsmen, reads that Nigerian Law School situated at Bwari town, may be targeted.
Guards Brigade is the Army formation responsible for the protection of the President and in the wake of insecurity in Abuja, has extended its mandate to provision of Abuja, the seat of the Presidency.
The signal message on the attack reads: “troops on routine patrol along Kubwa – Bwari were ambushed by suspected terrorists. Three soldiers were injured during the attack. The soldiers have been evacuated for medical attention. Details on the extent of their injuries are still under confirmation. The ambush attack happening within the general area of Bwari shows that the terrorists are actually within the location and possibly preparing to carry out their plans to attack the law school in Bwari as earlier reported.”
Nigeria Law School is suspected to be a target because, on Wednesday, 27 July, it will be conducting Call to Bar for the successful candidates in the May 2022 Bar final examination. Kubwa-Bwari road, Bwari town, will be beehive of activities and in the light of this attack, students and dignitaries that will grace the occasion may not be safe.
Meanwhile, the 1st Vice President of NBA, John O. Aikpokpo-Martins has called on the Body of Benchers to change the venue of the call to bar ceremony from Bwari to International Conference Centre.
Body of Benchers is responsible for the admission of lawyers into the Bar and will meet today, Tuesday 26th July.
