Arising from its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, held on Thursday 30th June, NLC has called on its members to get ready for a mega rally in Kebbi state, to support Dr. Nasir Idris of the APC.
Dr. Idris was the NUT President and Deputy President. NLC NEC also resolved to support its Chairperson in Niger State in order to ensure victory at the polls.
According to NLC NEC, “the Nigeria Labour Congress has special interest in Kebbi and Niger States where Dr. Nasir Idris, NLC Deputy President and Niger State Chairperson have emerged as Candidate and running mate of major political parties, respectively.”
Despite this open endorsement and clarion call on all workers to support APC in Kebbi State, NEC also called on its state structures to activate their local government political committees to sensitize workers and the general populace on the need to vote in Labour Party candidates across all elective positions in the 2023 general election.”
Observers of political activities of NLC questioned the rationale behind NLC, the acclaim owner of Labour Party not mobilizing for Labour Party in Kebbi or why is the Deputy President of NLC, not the guber candidate of Labour Party?
Another interesting observation going through the Resolutions of NLC NEC, Labour Party’s presidential candidate was not mentioned despite the publicized visit of the said candidate to NLC, collected the Workers Charter of Demands and participated fully in the ceremonies around NLC’s celebration of 10th anniversary of death of Comrade Paschal Bafyau.
