Sequel to our earlier publication on the purported arrest of Silas Onu, Esq Ebonyi State PDP Chairman, we have a press-statement issued by Silas Joseph Onu debunking the story by bloggers.
Below is the statement.
SILAS JOSEPH ONU – NO ONE ARRESTED ME
Thursday 12th May, 2022
I usually do not respond to cheap blackmail and propaganda publications. However, when a platform that circulates it publication among lawyers across Nigeria also decided to peddle falsehood without investigation or seeking to know if I was truly arrested, then I am compelled to make a categorical statement on the false publication.
I was never arrested by the Police or any law enforcement agency in Abuja or any part of Nigeria for any reason whatsoever, talk more of forgery. I have never been involved in any act of crime or criminality, hence the need for me to deal with the publication by BarristerNG with utmost diligence.
The publication is libelous, false and a fabrication by the author. As a lawyer, the news by BarristerNG was received by a vast majority of my professional colleagues who have been calling to express concern over the issue. Therefore, if this falsehood is not retracted within 24 hours by BarristerNG, I will file an action for libel, in addition to a petition to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee of the Body of Benchers against Mrs. Bridget Edokwe Echika – the publisher of this falsehood.
I thank all of you who have called to inquire if the publication is true and I feel glad that each of you have demonstrated better quality compared to the get rich quick makeshift journalist parading themselves on social media.
Thank you so much.
Signed:
Silas Joseph Onu, Esq.
Chairman PDP, Ebonyi State
