Kidnappers Kill One In Maitama Abuja

At least one man was killed, when men suspected to be kidnappers invaded Gana Street in Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to The Guardian learnt that the incident happened at about 8:46.p.m. on Wednesday. A resident said the victim was killed while trying to rescue a man that was being forced into a black Prado Sports Utility Van (SUV) by suspected kidnappers. He said the SUV was parked at Number 44 Gana Street where the deceased was shot on the head and he died instantly.

The source added that the suspects escaped with their victim, while the body of the deceased was left on the street.
According to him, this is the second incident happening on Gana Street in the past weeks.

The resident alleged that persons loitering around the place might be behind the attacks.
“ The boys loitering around the vicinity usually target pharmaceutical stores and supermarkets in Maitama. The police have not been living up to their mandate to secure supermarkets and pharmaceutical stores in the area,” he alleged.

Contacted, spokesperson for the FCT Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development, stressing that the Police had already launched a manhunt for the assailants.

Adeh dismissed allegations that police have not been doing enough to secure supermarkets in the area.
She said: “We are investigating. But that the Police have not been doing anything to secure pharmacies in the area is not true. The CP has been working round the clock to ensure that the FCT is safe and secure for everyone to go about their businesses.”
