FCT Area Council Elections, Residents Cry out Over Absence Of Debate And Manifestos

Some residents of Kubwa, have cried out that those seeking to represent them are not coming-forth with any campaign promises, their manifestos are not accessible. They wonder that in the absence of these, how will they hold these elected officers accountable if they get to office.
One of the residents of Kubwa, who identified himself simply as Mustapha, said that those residents crying out, should get hold of the manifestos of the political parties of these contestants and read what the parties have to offer to those at Local Government Area. He further said that in Nigeria, it is only political parties that contest election, that is why candidates pictures and names, do not appear on the ballot. He said that these candidates cannot make any promise outside those in their party’s manifesto.
Another resident while decrying the absence of debate among the contestants, said the contestants are trying to reach the electorates but because most Kubwa residents leave Kubwa every morning, they may not be aware of the campaign convoy of these candidates that move around to solicit for votes and share flyers.
He urged residents to ask questions about happenings in their environment, once they come back from their hustles in town.
Ikechukwu, while responding to our question, said that most residents of Kubwa, did not register to vote in Kubwa but in their states of origin and contestants being aware of this, is not dissipating energy canvassing in the elite section of Kubwa but concentrating on “rural areas” of Kubwa and Bwari. He pleaded with his fellow Kubwa residents, to show interest in political affairs of Kubwa and Bwari, even if they are not indigenes of Kubwa.
