Tea Time With Gandhi In Lagos

One of the greatest influencers in my spiritual life.
I was introduced to him in 1980s by my in-law Sean Fox, an Irish man, married to my aunt.
So whenever I see a copy of anything with Gandhi on it, I have goosebumps.
Despite his shortcomings ( he held blacks in contempt), he was a committed leader that sacrificed himself for the independence of India.
He showed alternative to violence but died violently because his Hindu brothers felt he was too peaceful on the issue of the newly created Pakistan.
Well this morning in my cousin’s house, somewhere after Lekki(the boy don conquer hunger and lives in a stadium sized house oh), I saw this and memories of my younger days flooded my soul and I ask; where are those who are the moral compass of Nigeria? What has become the young budding stems of leadership in NANS of the 90-2000?
Where did we lose sight of the ideals that fired us as student activists?
We put our studies on line, thinking that we will be the next generation’s Gandhi, Martin Luther Jr and lead our people to a better new Nigeria?
Alas, after graduation, most of us reversed into being tribal bigots, advancing tribal interests and no longer think of themselves as Nigerians.
Majority have become anus lickers of politicians, politicians who were club boys in the university, politicians who couldn’t address a rally to charge students into action and dare the state, confront the VC and demand for better environment for students!!
From this prism, I judge all presidential candidates; What was your role as a student?
What was your role during the actualization struggle for June 12?
When OBJ wanted 3rd term, what was your role?
Interestingly, I participated in all the 3 above and you have my support, if your supporters, can show me documented evidence of your involvement on the side of the Masses during these trying times in our democratic journey as a nation!
ENJOY A CUP OF TEA AND REFLECT ON THIS!
