HON MOHAMMED NDAYAKO SAN, VICE PRESIDENT OF AFRICAN BAR ASSOCIATION AND CHAIRMAN AFRICAN BAR ASSOCIATION ( NIGERIA FORUM) IN A STATEMENT IN COMMEMORATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF HUMAN RIGHTS SAYS THE WORLD WILL BE A BETTER PLACE IF GOVERNMENT, ITS AGENCIES AND All CONCERN RESPECT HUMAN RIGHTS.
Hon. Mohammed Ndayako SAN, Vice President of the African Bar Association and Chairman of the African Bar Association (Nigeria Forum), issued a statement in Abuja, Nigeria in commemoration of the International Day of Human Rights. He urged governments and their agencies to uphold human rights as a fundamental solution for peaceful coexistence.
This year’s theme for the International Human Rights Day is, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now.” In expressing the essence of human rights, Hon. Mohammed Ndayako highlighted that the value of the human person and its dignity can only be sustained when leaders across the globe, particularly in Africa, recognize human rights as the essential foundation that gives our collective lives and existence value. He asserted that life holds no meaning and lacks value when it is devoid of the right to life, the right to a fair trial, freedom from torture and other cruel and inhuman treatment, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, right to health, education, and an adequate standard of living.
Hon. Ndayako, greatly emphasised that without respect for human rights, humanity has no future. He stressed that the beauty of life in any given society or community is observed when high value is placed on human life, adding that, value and respect for human rights shield humanity from cruelty, injustice and all forms of inhuman treatment.
He strongly maintained that under no circumstances should the value of a human life be diminished, nor should human rights be taken for granted and abused based on religion, race, political affiliation, tribe and ethnicity. He also emphasized that even during wartime, human rights must be upheld, as nothing is more valuable than human life.
