FCT Area Council Election Tribunal Starts

The reclaiming of mandates have moved from the polling units to the courtroom where technicalities may rob the winner and bequeath victory to a candidate that wasn’t the popular or peoples’ choice.
Fireworks between winners and losers at the just concluded FCT Area councils election has commenced in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja.

The registry has started receiving petitions in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and practice rules/directives of the Tribunal.

At the just concluded election held on Saturday, 12 February, APC won 3 Area council of Gwagwalada, Kwali and Abaji while PDP took AMAC, Bwari, and Kuje.

After the announcement of results, PDP issued a statement that it will challenge the victory of APC in most of the Wards in FCT.

According Senator Iyorchia Ayu, PDP national chairman, “In the other three local governments of Abaji, Kwali and Gwagalada, we won nearly all the councillorship elections. If we put all the councillorship elections, PDP won 44 to APC’s 18. And where they lost, they thought the only way to manipulate the minds of Nigerians was to show that they too have three local governments and PDP had three local governments.

“In the same local governments they claimed to have won, we won nearly all the Councillorship elections. Strangely, INEC will say we won nearly all the councillorship, and we lost the chairmanship.

PDP national chairman

The Party is going to look into the elections based on the results available to us and challenge those results that we think have been manipulated to give the impression that APC has the same strength with a PDP.”
