The residents of Kubwa, the largest satellite town in Abuja, have raised a wailing to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike on the poor road situation in Kubwa.
Our investigation reveals that all the major junctions/intersections in Kubwa, are in dire need of urgent rehabilitation. We commenced our visit from Soul Lounge end of Gado Nasko Road to NNPC junction. The first junction, is Veteran Plaza junction, followed by F01-Ports Authority Junction, Phase 3 by Pyrate Anchor Point/Country Side Junction. A stone throw from here lands us at Mosque by Pizza Hut junction on our way to Chemzo-police station/General hospital junction. Nadrem-Kubwa Central District Junction, is as bad as TREM by Total-First Bank Junction.
Aso Savings-Hamza Abdullahi road junction, is a unique nightmare, worse than El-Rufai bus stop by Market Road Junction heading to Miliki Junction, just before Zenith Bank junction.
All the Junctions, apart from fish pond sized potholes, have epileptic traffic light, dancing uncontrollably like a faulty Christmas tree light.Kubwa is not only about Gado Nasko, though it is the main artery that divides Kubwa from it, you can navigate into all parts of Kubwa.
Arab Road, is another long artery in Kubwa, stretching from Kubwaexpress by REMA Church through IITA to Sokale Dutse. Like Gado Nasko, this road has potholes and the most dreaded is found at Liberty Hotel-Byghi Junction. After tour of these junctions, residents we spoke to, lamented the hardship these bad section of the road causes them. It is a daily nightmare during rush hours. In a bid to avoid the spoilt sections of these road, traffic builds up, taking nothing less than 45 minutes for the wheel of a car to complete one revolution.
Musa, one of the residents that insisted his name be mentioned, wanted the FCT Minister to answer why, “he would spend so much time and money renovating good roads in Wuse, Maitama and Asokoro while leaving Kubwa roads unattended to?” He further suggested that “the good roads (asphalt) scraped from these rich men areas, should be used to rehabilitate Kubwa roads, where the poor that service these rich men live.”
Aisha on her own part, wants the FCT Minister, to do something about the blocked drainages in Kubwa. She expresses fears that if nothing urgent is done, Kubwa river (F0-1 through Deeper Life/PW Bridge) and Chikakore-IITA, will overflow its banks and throw Kubwa into a Borno like disaster. We made attempts to reach the Councillor representing Kubwa in Bwari Area Council, to table the lamentations by his constituents but all attempts were abortive as his numbers were not reachable at the time we went to press.
Kubwa Residents Cry For Wike’s Attention!
