The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN on Monday, interacted with members of the National Officers’ Election Appeal Committee, subject to ratification of the National Executive Council (NEC).
Mandate of the committee include: receive and resolve electoral complaints and disputes arising from the election of National Officers and the election of representatives of the NBA in the General Council of the Bar.
The chairman of the committee is Mr. Usman Ogwu Sule, SAN. accepted his appointment pending NEC ratification.

In his acceptance speech, Learned Silk Usman, assured prospective candidates that his committee will be fair, firm and just in dealing with any Appeal brought before his Committee. He further pledged that all Appeals brought before his Committee, will be treated with utmost respect, professional courtesy and with speedy dispatch so as not to cause any candidate to lose vital campaign hours.
Other members are Mrs. Folashade Alli, SAN (Alternate Chairman), Dr. Agada John Elachi, SAN, Adizua Okoroafor, Esq, Matthew Osume, Esq, Amina Senchi (Mrs), and Stella Omoikhefe Owu (Secretary).
In a related development, as the Appeal Committee was interacting with NBA leadership, the ECNBA opened the Forms submitted by prospective candidates to the forthcoming Election.
The Chairman of ECNBA, Oluseun Abimbola, SAN, assured Prospective Candidates that his Committee will be fair, transparent and apply equally the provisions of NBA Constitution on all forms submitted to it, without bias towards any.
The Committee, transparently opened the 50 forms submitted to her and read out to the hearing of all Prospective Candidates and their Agents as well as to audience via zoom, the documents submitted by each Prospective Candidate. They Committee then went into a closed session akin to a conclave, to screen the documents submitted.
The first list of cleared candidates are expected within the next 14 days.
