No NIN No UME/DE JAMB Warns

Ahead of this year’s University Matriculation Examination (UME) and Direct Entry into Nigerian universities, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), has released USSD code to assist students ascertain their National Identification Number (NIN) before proceeding to register for the exam.

Joint Admission And Matriculation Board that conducts UME had last year attempted to impose “No NIN No UME” policy but had to beat a retreat when National Assembly warned against it.

Against this backdrop, JAMB resolved that 2022 UME, must be conducted on the basis of No NIN No UME.

UME registration portal opened last Saturday and those who had attempted to register, said there is a provision to enter your NIN.

In order to verify your NIN and continue with your registration, NIMC released the notice below.

But a student who followed the instructions above, complained that NIMC did not answer her request despite deduction from her credit by her network provider. Another student stated that this is another avenue for NIMC favored service provide to make money without rendering services. I have been here since over 30 minutes, waiting for reply from NIMC, so that I can continue with my registration but no SMS has come from them. This is frustrating.

People who had enrolled months ago, are complaining that their data has not been transferred to other government agencies. They further complain that this is hindering them from getting government services that require presentation of NIN, for example, renewal of International passport.
