To some, the judgements coming out from the 2023 Election Tribunals all of the country, were predicted and offer no surprises.
To some, who chose to watch the Judiciary, without understanding how the Judiciary works, the Judgments are eye openers-even to those who snored away during reading of Judgments, when the Judiciary reversed to have her eyes on the evidence or lack of it presented before the blind lady Justice.
For some, wetin concern them inside the domestic affairs of politicians who are trying to game the system so as to become the next slave master to implement imperialist accredited policies, with only one aim to make Nigerians poorer.
For me, if one is dispassionate and not partisan, there have been a lot of takeaways from the judgments so far. Some of these far reaching pronouncements, I will not form opinion on until the final court affirms or overrule them.
Against this backdrop, I drop the following observation for consideration.
How come nobody has been recommended to be tried for Electoral Offenses? If we must improve and reduce violence and other electoral offenses, those responsible for creating enabling environment for the basis upon which elections results are upturned, should be prosecuted. The Electoral Act has Electoral Offenses and some of these Offenses were committed in the course of the 2023 Elections that have given birth to the judgments oozing from the Tribunals.
All the Professors used for the tabulation of the numbers that have now turned out to be miraculous, should be sanctioned. The Tribunal should recommend that such Professors, should not be allowed to lecture students again.
Also to be recommended for sanction, are INEC Staff involved in pre-election activities of political parties, especially party primaries. Why should INEC Staff, sign off a party nomination convention/primary that didn’t meet the requirements of the Electoral Act? Until the Tribunal pronounces that INEC Staff should be held responsible as part of the principal agents in the failure of Elections, we will not get the firm foundation for a credible election in Nigeria.
