Mr. Chinonye Edmond Obiagwu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), is being accused of resorting to self help by forcefully breaking into and vandalizing apartments in lawful possession of his tenants within Maitama area of Abuja.
Chinonye Edmund Obiagwu (SAN) is
the founding Director and current National Coordinator of the Legal Defence and Assistance Project (LEDAP) a non-governmental organization of lawyers and legal professionals, engaged in the promotion and protection of human rights, the rule of law and good governance in Nigeria.
It has observer status with the Africa commission on human and peoples’ Rights.
On Sunday, 23rd Day of July 2023 without notice or court order and while some of the tenants were away, the Learned Silk, in company of unknown tugs broke into and vandalized the rented apartments, threatening to destroy and deal with anyone who stands in his way.
Ignoring pleas for explanation of his actions by some of the residents, he boastfully claimed that he knows the law and nothing will happen.
According to a source, Chinonye Edmond Obiagwu SAN, has commenced some form of renovation and conversion of of the residential property but tenants whose rent are still subsisting refused to vacate to grant his workers unfettered access to their abode,
Another tenant said that FCDA- pasted Development Control order to stop work most likely due to the SAN’s failure to obtain necessary permits for the ongoing renovations. His workers ignored the Stop Work Order whilst continuing with the work.
It’s also interesting to note that Chinonye Edmond Obiagu SAN, had filed a civil suit against his tenants at the Magistrate Court Wuse Zone 2, The suit is still subsisting as at the time the Learned Silk broke into the Defendants houses.
