PROTOCOL.
It is for me a great honour and privilege to welcome us all to this very auspicious occasion of the 2023 edition of the NBA, Ikeja Annual Law Week. The carefully selected theme for this year’s law week is “Earning Wealth and Keeping Fit in challenging times”.
Recognizing the truism that Lawyers work and read until they can no longer read or work, the NBA Ikeja has gathered some of the most knowledgeable, experienced and very accomplished professionals in the fields relevant to this year’s theme to share their highly sought after and invaluable expertise with us for free. For this, the NBA Ikeja Branch is grateful to all our distinguished speakers/discussants. No doubt, the NBA Ikeja Annual Law Week, 2023 promises an engaging and enlightening experience for all participants, both physical and virtual. We must therefore open our minds and hearts to new ideas as we come together to share valuable knowledge.
We must be ready to learn new and better ways of living whilst unlearning some of the old ways that no longer hold sway. On this note, I would like to warmly welcome our guest speakers and facilitators, who have generously agreed to share their expertise with us.
A cursory look at the law week brochure would show that we have selected and arranged exciting lineup of topics and activities for the week for which I encourage everyone of us to make the most of.
As legal practitioners who constantly seek knowledge and improvement of our earning capacities, this year’s law week affords us the perfect opportunity to do just that, by listening to and discussing with these seasoned experts who, I say without any equivocation or fear of contradiction, have seen it all in their respective fields as they enlighten us not just on how to improve our earning capacities but also on how to improve our general well-being, afterall, health they say is wealth.
I encourage us all to make the most of this opportunity, challenge ourselves and broaden our perspectives as we attempt to combine pleasure and business in this years’ law week. I say that it is an attempt to combine business with pleasure because this annual ritual is not just about learning from the best but also about networking and building social connections. We have the opportunity to meet and interact with both young and seniors who share our interests and passions, and these connections can prove invaluable and/or mark the turning point in our various law practices.
May I at this point appreciate the wonderful members of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch who have individually and collectively shown us enormous support since the inception of our administration. Without your support and generous contributions, there may not have been a law week to be proud of. For this, I remain grateful and pledge to continue to serve you even better.May I also cease this opportunity to appreciate the hard work, dedication, commitment and the invaluable time spent by the Law Week Planning Committee members ably led by the most distinguished Senior Advocate of Nigeria – Mr. Olatunde Adejuyigbe SAN in putting all these together. NBA Ikeja could not have assembled a better Committee and Committee Chairman.
The Committee has worked tirelessly to ensure the success of this event and it is only fitting that I place my unalloyed gratitude on record for all their efforts.
In conclusion, may I at this point express my profound gratitude and thanks to God Almighty – the giver of every good thing for the believed success of this years’ NBA Ikeja law week. Also, may I once again appreciate in a special way our various and generous sponsors, partners and well-wishers. It is my earnest prayer that every seed sown; both intellectually, financially and otherwise at this years’ Law Week will grow and yield fruits.
Thank you all for making the law week possible and thank you all for being here.
Oluwaseyi Olawumi, Esq. AICMC, FIMC, CMC Chairman, NBA (Ikeja Branch).
