The second NEC Meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), under the leadership of the 31st President of the NBA, will take place in Birnin Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State on the 23rd day of March, 2023.
Kebbi State, the home state of YC Maikyau OON, SAN, NBA’s president, was chiseled out of Sokoto State on August 27, 1991.
Kebbi State, shares international boarder with Benin Republic, while Sokoto, Zamfara and Niger are states sharing local boarders with her.
It has an estimated population of about 4.4 million as of 2016.
Kebbi state is a mixed ethnic and religious state. Some of the tribes in are; Fulani, Hausa, Zarmapeoples living throughout the state, while the Achipa (Achipawa), Boko-Bala, Dendi, Dukawa, Kambari, Kamuku, Lela, Puku, and Kebbi State, has 21 Local Government Areas, with four emirate councils (Gwandu, Argungu, Yauri and Zuru), and 35 districts. Kebbi state derived its name from the 14th century “KEBBI KINGDOM” which was a province of the former Songhai Empire. Islam is the predominant religion.

One of the most popular festivals in Kebbi, is the Argungu Fishing and cultural festival. The Argungu festival was first celebrated as a big event in 1934, when it was staged to mark the visit of the Sultan of Sokoto, Mallam Hassan Dan Muazu to Argungu.
The climax of the event is a fishing challenge at Matan Fada River where hundreds of potential fisherman jump into the river at once to fish and the fisherman with the largest catch gets rewarded.
Girmache Shrine, Zuru.
Girmache Shrine in Zuru is a water shrine with hundreds of harmless crocodiles. The area is surrounded by sparse vegetation. The crocodiles are brought out around the time of the Zuru Uhola Festival when men dance carrying them on their back.
The people of Zuhu Emirate celebrate the Uhola festival between December and January every year as thanksgiving. The highlight of the festival is the initiation of young boys and girls into adulthood.
Kanta National Museum, Argungun.
Kanta National Museum was formerly an emir’s palace but was converted to a museum in 1958. The museum houses artefacts and other historical relics on the town and its people.
Economically, Kebbi state is largely based around fishing and agriculture, mainly of sorghum, groundnuts, millet, onion, and rice crops.
Other industries are trading, especially in the city of Birnin Kebbi, and the livestock herding of camels, cattle, goats, and sheep.
