The dreaded On Street Parking, (park and pay), will in the 1st quarter of 2023, make a come back on the streets of Abuja.
This is contained in a public announcement, issued by Transportation Secretariat Federal Capital Territory Administration.
On 17th April 2014, FCT High Court presided over by Justice Peter Affen, ruled that the Park & Pay policy that mandates motorists within the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to pay stipulated amounts to have their cars parked at specific locations within the city centres, is illegal.
Since this judgement, FCT Administration has been going through the books on how to successfully bounce back with this obnoxious policy.
According to the Public Notice, the reintroduction, is sequel to the conclusion of all legal processes required before the re-Introduction.
The Administration therefore wishes to notify the public of the following plan of activities:
From December 2022 to January 31 2023, sensitization campaign and Free Trial Operation of the Scheme will commence.
Full scale implementation of the Scheme is expected to commence by first quarter of 2023. The public is hereby assured of excellent service delivery by the operators while maintenance of orderliness in the parking regime in the Territory remains the ultimate goal.
