The Nigerian Law Society (NLS) extends its warmest congratulations to the newly appointed Service Chiefs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and conveys its deep appreciation to the outgoing military leaders for their dedicated service to the nation.
The NLS particularly commends the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and his fellow Service Chiefs for their patriotic and dedicated leadership during a challenging period. Their tenure has been pivotal in the ongoing fight against insurgency, banditry, and other security challenges threatening the peace and stability of Nigeria.
We recognise the sacrifices made by our armed forces under their stewardship and the significant gains recorded in degrading the capabilities of adversarial groups across the country. Their service has laid a formidable foundation upon which future successes will be built.
At this moment of transition, the NLS warmly welcome the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, along with the new Service Chiefs, and congratulates them on their well-deserved appointments.
The NLS has taken note of their outstanding credentials and operational experience, which undoubtedly informed the President’s confidence in their capabilities.
We are particularly encouraged by their leadership in major military operations, including Operation Hadin Kai in the North-East and anti-piracy operations in the Niger Delta. We urge them to build upon the legacy of their predecessors and to justify the confidence reposed in them by further enhancing the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The NLS encourages the new Service Chiefs to pursue security strategies that are not only effective but also firmly rooted in the principles of respect for human rights and the rule of law. We believe that sustainable security is achieved when military operations are conducted with professionalism and in a manner that earns the trust and cooperation of the civilian populace.
The NLS calls for strengthened collaboration between all security agencies and civilian institutions to address the underlying causes of insecurity in our country.
Finally, we pray for divine guidance and wisdom for the new Service Chiefs as they take on this vital and challenging responsibility.
