•Urges Presidential Assent and Further Legislative Action to Protect Women.
The Ideal Women for Better Society (IWBS), a foremost advocacy organization championing the rights and dignity of girls and women in Nigeria, has applauded the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the passage of the Criminal Code (Amendment) Bill, 2025, prescribing life imprisonment for offenders found guilty of defiling minors.
This legislative milestone, according to IWBS, represents a bold and progressive step toward securing justice for vulnerable children, especially the girl-child who has, for decades, borne the brunt of sexual abuse, exploitation, and societal neglect. We commend the Nigerian Senate for its courage and sense of responsibility in protecting the innocence and future of our children,” said Barr. Mrs. J. O. Anyata, The National President of Ideal Women for Better Society (IWBS). “This bill demonstrates that Nigeria is ready to take decisive action against predators who destroy young lives and to align with global standards on the protection of minors.”
IWBS therefore urges His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to give immediate and urgent assent to the bill, so that its provisions can be swiftly operationalized and justice can begin to serve as a deterrent to would-be offenders.

Beyond this landmark step, the organization is also calling on the Senate and the entire National Assembly to extend this legislative momentum toward: Strengthening laws and penalties against domestic and gender-based violence,
Ensuring speedy prosecution and justice for victims, Expanding rehabilitation, psychological support, and reintegration programs for survivors, and Promoting gender equity and inclusive social protection frameworks across the nation.“While this new bill is a major victory for justice, there remains a need for deeper social reforms that protect women and girls from all forms of violence, both within and outside the home,” Barr. Mrs. J. O. Anyata added .
“IWBS remains committed to partnering with government agencies, civil society organizations, and community leaders to ensure every Nigerian woman and girl lives free from fear and abuse.”The Ideal Women for Better Society (IWBS) reaffirms its dedication to advocacy, education, and community mobilization for a safer, just, and equitable Nigeria for all.
