NBA Clears V.C. Onweremadu Esq.

V.C.Onweremadu, Esq., a candidate for chairmanship position in the NBA Aba branch general election of June 2024 was cleared to contest for the chairmanship of NBA Aba by the Branch’s electoral committee. But one Eluwa esq wrote a petition against him to the NBA Appeal committee (East) on the ground that he had served for two terms in an elective executive position, having served as the Vice chairman and subsequently as member of the general council of the bar.
The NBA Appeal Committee (East), chaired by Ndukwe SAN and Amaka Ezeno  as secretary, found merit in the petition and disqualified Onweremadu, three days to the election. His appeal against the decision was not granted and subsequently, he did not participate in the election.
Being dissatisfied by this, Onweremadu on  26/09/2025 appealed to NBA President, seeking Clarification. In a letter dated 13th October, 2025, the NBA President stated, “Thus, the two-term limit does not apply in cases of election into the General Council of the Bar.”
The NBA through this response has put a final stop and redress the injustice meted out to Mr Onweremadu such that no other member of NBA in any branch will suffer such injustice in the near future at any NBA branch or national general election.
