The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Remuneration Committee has issued a strong reminder to all Branch Chairmen and Secretaries on the urgent need to forward their Branch Resolutions on the Enforcement of the Legal Practitioners’ Remuneration Order 2023 before the deadline of 30th September 2025.
The Remuneration Order, signed into law in 2023, sets clear provisions for the minimum fees chargeable by lawyers in Nigeria. Its proper enforcement is considered central to addressing the long-standing challenge of poor remuneration and undervaluation of legal services within the profession.
So far, only the NBA Suleja, NBA Asaba, and NBA Orlu Branches have submitted their resolutions to the Committee. Other Branches are therefore urged to act swiftly by convening their general meetings, adopting their enforcement models, and forwarding their resolutions to the Committee via remuneration@nigerianbar.org.ng.The Committee emphasized that Branch-specific resolutions are crucial for the success of the upcoming Town Hall Meetings on Enforcement of the Remuneration Order, scheduled to begin in October 2025. These sessions will address practical strategies, compliance mechanisms, stakeholder concerns, and best practices for interpreting and applying the Order across different branches.
Branch leaders who have yet to take action are strongly encouraged to comply before the stipulated deadline.
For inquiries, Branches may contact the Committee’s Programme Officer, Stella Charles Akupue via WhatsApp only on 0803 388 8791.
Signed:
Chief Emeka J.P. Obegolu, SAN
Chairman, NBA Remuneration Committee
