The Afam I Know by Dr Christopher Eichie

Afam is first a friend, the kind every man needs but only a few are fortunate to have. He speaks truth without varnish, yet never with malice. His corrections are fraternal, his counsel steady, often the anchor in moments of turbulence.
He may not lace his words with Scriptures, but his life is steeped in faith; an unshakable trust in his Creator. In my difficult hours, Afam has stood by me, reminding me sometimes with words, other times with presence that true help comes from God.
Leadership reveals his character most clearly. Positions of power often expose vanity, arrogance, or abuse. Afam transformed every office he held into a platform for service.
As Publicity Secretary of the NBA Abuja, he brought information to the very doorsteps of members. As Secretary, he raised the standards of record-keeping and order at the Secretariat. As Chairman, he redefined accessibility; taking the Bar to its members and creating programs that placed people, not prestige, at the center.
Even more than a year after leaving office, members still turn to him for guidance—proof that real influence endures long after formal power is gone. He exercised authority with the strength of Samson, the wisdom of Solomon, yet cloaked it all in humility. That is the paradox of true power: in his hands, it did not corrupt, it did not oppress—it lifted.Beyond public life, Afam is a family man in the truest sense. A devoted husband and father, he shows by example that the home is the first and highest arena of leadership. His wife and children cherish him not just for what he provides, but for the love, presence, and stability he embodies.
At 52, Afam stands tall as one deeply blessed by his Creator and, in turn, a blessing to all who encounter him. He has conquered many territories—not through force or self-promotion, but through faith, diligence, and service.
Nigeria’s greatest deficit is leadership. In Afam, I see a man equipped to make a difference. The NBA, Abuja branch tested him and found him worthy. Many now ask: what next for Afam? His body language suggests his eyes are set on the national stage—and those who know his record wait with hope for him to declare.
At 52, Afam has earned his place among the giants who rose from humble soil to challenge the world. He has shown that power, when wielded with humility and vision, blesses rather than corrupts. May he continue to walk that path, lifting others as he rises.
Happy birthday, my brother.
