NBA Participates in 2nd Steering Committee Meeting on Implementation of Non-Custodial Measures

On Thursday, 10th July 2025, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) was ably represented by Nuhu J. Egya, Chairman of the Citizens Liberties Committee (National), at the 2nd Meeting of the Steering Committee on the Implementation of Non-Custodial Measures, held at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, Abuja.
The high-level meeting convened an esteemed assembly of legal professionals, members of the Bench, policymakers, and critical stakeholders across the justice sector. Discussions focused on the ongoing implementation of non-custodial measures an essential component of criminal justice reform aimed at decongesting correctional facilities and promoting restorative justice.
Mr. Egya, in his intervention, underscored the NBA’s unwavering commitment to justice sector reform and the safeguarding of civil liberties. He reiterated the importance of collaborative engagement among legal practitioners, institutional actors, and civil society in driving sustainable change in the administration of justice.Speaking on behalf of the NBA, Mr. Egya described the occasion as both a privilege and a solemn call to service. He emphasized the need for continuous innovation, inclusivity, and adherence to due process in implementing alternatives to incarceration—particularly in upholding the rights of vulnerable and underserved populations.
