Comptroller General of Correctional Service Pledges Improved Relations with Lawyers, improved living conditions of inmates, all inmates awaiting trials and the details of indigent inmates records will be provided to NBA for Pro-Bono services in Meeting with NBA Citizens Liberties’ Committee.
The visit to the Correctional Service Headquarters was led by the Chairman *Nuhu J. Egya, Esq.* alongside some notable members amongst *Maxwell Opara, Deji Adeyanju, Marvin Ibem, Maga Emmanuel, Halima Yusuf, Jimwa Comfort Nzuta and Philip Akpavie.On the issue of the improved living conditions of inmates in the Correctional Service facilities across Nigeria the Comptroller General through his spoke man said some of the facilities are overburden because the number of inmates is far beyond the required number in the said facilities which most times are inmates awaiting trials.
The Deradicalrization programme by the organisation and military is aimed at reforming the terrorists related convicts, though there’s serious need for more innovation and legal framework to support such in order to achieve its objectives.
Meanwhile, on pro-bono cases, there was a consensus adidem on how henceforth proper census on cases taken will be kept, and NBA will ensure that lawyers who undertake to render such services handle the cases to logical conclusion and report back to NBA for publicity.
The Correctional Service senior officers advocate for inclusiveness in the NBA Committees that relate with human rights and Citizens Liberties in order for the Association and Nigerians to have first-hand information on all the happening in their Correctional facilities in order to avoid Bobrisky scenario.
