The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Friday in a statement revealed that it has uncovered a counterfeit rice factory, Ninjur Ventures on Abacha Road, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
During the operation by NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Task Force, about 1,600 bags of fake rice worth an estimated ₦5 billion, were seized.
According to NAFDAC, the facilities were implicated in the production and distribution of counterfeit rice, prompting further raids in Wuse and Garki markets in Abuja.The raid extended to Wuse and Garki markets in Abuja, following a directive from the DG of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye.
During the operation, “Empty rice bags bearing popular brand names were also discovered at the Karu facility,” the agency added.
NAFDAC urges Nigerians to verify the sources of their food products, purchase from reputable stores and check for NAFDAC registration and batch information.
“The suspects involved in this criminal activity will face the full wrath of the law in line with NAFDAC regulations,”
