The race towards the Publicity Secretary of NBA, has entered mucky territory, with the publisher of Barristerng, Bridget Edokwe petitioning ECNBA to disqualify Charles Ajiboye the incumbent National Assistant Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, claiming that he has been using NBA platforms to gain undue advantage.
Ferdinand Naza, a co-contestant, also took a swipe on Ajiboye.
Naza’s petition, is on all fours with that of Edokwe. Reacting to the petitions, Charles Ajiboye, denounced them as baseless, petty and that the petitioners attached no evidence to substantiate their allegations. On Bridget Edokwe’s petition, Ajiboye’s rebuttal, dated June 21, 2024, and addressed to the ECNBA, stated that Edokwe’s petition, was a distortion of facts. He categorically denied the accusations, asserting that he has never used NBA’s official platforms to promote his candidacy, harvested data of young lawyers, or enjoyed any undue advantage to influence the election. “It is strange and laughable that I can be persecuted for promoting the activities of NBA fora, sections, and committees by people who want to be Publicity Secretary”, he said.
One of Ajiboye’s supporters, who pleaded to be anonymous, berated the duo of Edokwe and Naza, alleging that their petitions were out of fear to accept their doom at the polls.According to her, “His exceptional performance and groundbreaking initiatives may be the reason that his opponents have ganged up against him.”She further wondered aloud, how the duo who had not been campaigning think they would win election by merely copy and pasting themselves on blogs?
She urged them to stop chasing shadows and market themselves to the electorate.
Felix Ashimole, co-publisher of Kubwaexpress.com, who was disqualified by ECNBA, for paying his BPF within time but earlier than January 1st, has called on ECNBA to do the needful, let the hammer fall where it must. He further stated that, to avoid this king of situation going forward, any incumbent National Officer of NBA seeking election, should relinquish his or her post, once such a person submits nomination form to ECNBA.
