Leadership is often assessed based on performance. It is normal in our clime for people to spend precious time and resources jostling to occupy leadership positions.
Their qualification for such offices is mostly based on total ignorance, over estimation of self and/or the spoil of such offices. Only few office seekers are subtly prepared for the task and demands of the office.
The NBA is to conduct election for its national officers on the 20th July, 2024. The ECNBA (Electoral Committee) has rolled out the list of voters for the election while lawyers have been verifying their names in preparation for the election. 
The NBA presidency is a prestigious office for lawyers as it is the highest office attainable in the association and superintends over the affairs of her members all over the nation. Just like all other offices, the NBA presidency has been occupied by highly revered and competent leaders while at some points it had a fair share of incompetent and underperforming folks at its helm.
Amongst those currently contesting for the office of the president of the Bar is the famous MAZI AFAM OSIGWE, SAN. The learned silk is not famous just because of his young, handsome and attractive look, but for brilliance, courage and innovation that has moved the NBA to the admirable level she occupy today on so many fronts. 
MAZI AFAM OSIGWE, SAN served as the General Secretary of the Bar while Augustine Alegeh, SAN reigned as the President of the bar. The administration evolved a lot of reforms that preserve the sanctity and stability of the bar. Many of those reforms were the brainchild of AFAM. The stamp and seal to tackle fake lawyers and impersonation, the universal suffrage that allow every lawyer with good financial standing to vote during her elections instead of the delegate election which held sway hitherto, the introduction of the uniform bye-laws for all branches of the bar which created a uniform template for Bar activities all over the country, introduction of insurance scheme for members and most recently, in his capacity as the Chairman, NBA Remuneration Committee he has been able to review lawyers remuneration in tune with current economic realities.
All of the foregoing are landmark reforms that put the NBA in good light. Being part of all these reforms connote his capability to advance the bar given the opportunity.
