In continuation of activities to immortalise, Samuel Okwaraji, the Samuel Okwaraji Foundation, has commenced activities to commence the first Samuel Okwaraji annual soccer championship for secondary schools in Imo State.
Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji, died on Saturday 12th August, 1989 during a tension-soaked make or mar Italia 1990 World Cup qualifier match, between the Green Eagles and the boastful Angolan side.
This effort to further immortalise Okwaraji, has received endorsement from Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)
In a letter dated 13th December, 2023, Ruth David Ag. Director Competitions, NFF, wrote; “Your letter on the above subject and the content therein refers.
I write to convey to you, the endorsement and approval by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to your proposed Samuel Okwaraji Under-16 Soccer Championship for Secondary Schools in Nigeria to be held annually.
This endorsement is in recognition of the purpose and objectives stated in your request as well as the overall goals and foreseen potential contribution the project would impact on not only on the participants but also on the overall development of the game.
NFF appreciates your desire to contribute to the growth and development of Youth and under-age Football and thus, endorsed your request in order to actualise your proposals.
Kindly ensure that in exercising this authority, your activities and programs are within the provisions of the extant rules of Football, to which the Federation is its governing authority.
While congratulating you for this noble step in enhancing Football development, please accept the expression and warm sporting regards of the Nigeria Football Federation.”
Chidozie, the secretary of the Sam Okwaraji Foundation calls on the government and cooperations, to come on board and sponsor one aspect of the tournament.
