After the superlative performance at the Opening Ceremony, the 63rd Annual General Conference of the NBA, will on Monday, break into plenary sessions. Interesting sub themes, have been lined up to tickle your fancy in any chosen field of legal practice. To make the best of the Conference and make sure you are GETTING IT RIGHT, we advise that you choose a breakout session that will serve your need. Don’t be the proverbial jack of all trades or the faithful servant, who wants to please both Madam and Oga’s Mistress. Choose one breakout session per time as they will be running concurrently.
But of all the breakout sessions on Monday, 28th, we are of the irrefutable and rebuttable opinion, that your best is to listen to the session on: Fake News, Cyber Bullying and Hate Speech on Social Media: what is it and how do we deal with it? With the explosion of information and communication technologies, fake news, cyber bullying and hate speech has taken on a new dimension. While online media, such as blogs, social networks and websites, are excellent at helping people to communicate and provide access to huge amounts of information, they also allow fake news.
This situation has changed the functional nature of the right to information, which was always tied directly to the right to freedom of opinion. The session will discuss citizen’s constitutional rights to freedom of speech and opinion and concerns of abuse of social media.
