The NBA Uyo Election scheduled to hold last week, was postponed due to irregularities and abuse of the electoral processes by the outgoing Branch Chairman and the Electoral Committee Chairman.
Of the irregularities, we are informed that, the most absurd was the posting of voters list on the morning of the election, a clear violation of the Section 15(2) of the NBA Uniform Bye Law For Branches, which states, “The member’s name shall appear in the final list of eligible voters as compiled by the Electoral Committee and published not later than fourteen (14) days before the date of election.”
Against this backdrop, the NBA President, Y.C.Maikyau, OON, SAN has setup a 3 man caretaker committee, with the sole mandate of conducting election within 30 days.
Some members who spoke with kubwaexpress, welcomed the decision and pointed accusing fingers at the outgoing chairman, Ememobong Nicholas, Esq., blaming him for the irregularities.
They further accused him of attempting to throw the Branch into crisis because his preferred candidate, was disqualified, for not being eligible to contest for the office of the Chairman.
