In line with its mandate to engage more young lawyers (within (1-7 years PQE) in the activities of the NBA Section on Law Practice (SLP) and to re-activate the dwindling interests of young lawyers in traditional legal practice (dispute resolution), the Young Litigators Committee (YLC) of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Legal Practice (NBA SLP) announces the third edition of its announced Young Lawyers Debate. The Young Lawyers Debate is designed as an oral contest of ideas, in which participants evaluate and defend their positions on legal issues of importance at the NBA-SLP Conference scheduled to be held on July 17, 2023 – July 19, 2023.
Young Lawyers (0-7 Years PQE) from all over the country are invited to participate in the 3rd Edition of the Young Lawyers Debate and stand a chance to win the star prize of NGN750,000.
The Second Prize winners would win N500,000 while the third prize winners would win N350,000.00 amongst other prizes.
The Debate Competition is a three-stage competition open to all young lawyers (who must first be registered members of the SLP) and must be within 1-7 years post-qualification bracket. There are three stages to the Competition which are as follows: the pre-qualification stage (the submission of essay entries), the semi-final stages (individual mini-debate on an impromptu debate topic) and the final debate stage (pairing debaters in a team of 2).
To qualify for the pre-qualification stage of this competition, kindly send an essay of 700-900 words on subject “Analysing the Impact of E-filing Systems and Virtual Court Proceedings in the Nigerian Judicial System” to nbaslpylc@gmail.comand copy abasakpabio@yahoo.com on or before the July 3, 2023.
All Essays must be written in Times New Roman font size 12, double line spaced and footnotes in OSCOLA referencing.
The Essay should also contain a cover page with the lawyer’s full name, NBA Branch, year of call, telephone number and email address.
Participants must also be registered members of NBA-SLP.
