The controversy surrounding the nomination of Chidi Dimgba and Ability Tom by John Okwudili, has taken a new dimension.
We are reliably informed that formal petition had been written insisting that the duo be disqualified as their nominator, did not meet the Electoral Guidelines clause “Must have two sponsors who are equally capable of contesting the position.”
The Electoral Guideline further state that a candidate “Must have attended a minimum of 5 monthly meetings in a year i.e Between May, 2022-April, 2023.”
John Okwudili did in filling the form as a nominator for Chidi Dimgba and Ability Tom, filled April 2022-May 2023. A careful perusal by the Ashu led Committee, noted that John Okwudili, did not attend May 2022 meeting amongst others and is not eligible to be a voter and his name did not make it to the list of 118 voters released on the 1st of June, 2023.
Contrary to Monday Adjeh’s denial at a meeting called on the instance of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria; that the NBA Bwari respects zoning, a minute of 2016 meeting has emerged where under the Chairmanship of B.O.Nafagah, Esq., the Branch did not resist or oppose the adoption of zoning in accordance with what was applicable at the National.
This 2016 minute, was brought to the attention of the Exco at the Exco meeting held on Monday 5th day of June 2023 by Obinna Amoha, one of the oldest members in Exco and a former officer of the Bar.
Against this backdrop, what is stopping Ashu Electoral Committee from rescinding the qualification to contest it granted the duo of Maxwell Opara & Chidi Dimgba to contest for Vice Chairman, a position zoned to the West? Maxwell Opara & Chidi Dimgba are from the East.
