ICC; YC Maikyau Congratulates Ms Claudia Salomon

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN, attended the opening ceremony of the 7th ICC Africa Conference on International Arbitration on Thursday, 1 June 2023.
This year’s ICC Conference coincided with the global business institution’s centenary celebration. The President, while delivering his goodwill message, congratulated the ICC on 100 years of positive impact around the globe. He also congratulated Ms Claudia Salomon, on her emergence as President of the ICC Court of Arbitration; the first woman to ever occupy that position in its 100 years of existence. Mr. Maikyau informed the gathering of over 500 arbitration practitioners from around the world that members of the NBA were fully prepared to take up opportunities in the industry. He noted that Nigeria had just passed the new Arbitration and Mediation Act 2023, a significant positive development for the nation and for members in the arbitration community in Nigeria.  He made it clear that the NBA is fully poised to hold its members accountable for their conduct generally, including their conduct as arbitration practitioners, revealing that the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners in Nigeria has just been recently reviewed to incorporate guidelines against money laundering and counter terrorism financing. The President concluded his goodwill message by expressing appreciation for the continuous partnership between the NBA and the ICC and wished the participants a remarkable conference experience.
