Mrs. N. C. Nwachukwu, past Treasurer and past acting Welfare Secretary of Gwagwalada Branch of Nigerian Bar Association calls for a reduction of the 2023 NBA annual conference fees approved by NBA NEC.
In a statement, which Kubwaexpress has obtained, she registered her regrets on the hike in the conference fees for 2023.
She appealed to the Chairman Mr. Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN and other members to consider the economic situation and reduce the cost of the conference fees so as to encourage full participation.
She also requested that members that had shown commitment in attending compulsory Legal Education (CLE) and have earned upto 50 credits units should be listed and their conference fees reduced drastically.
She commend the efforts of the technical organising committee so far and pray we have a befitting conference.
But responding, a member of the Committee, states that, the economic hardship that affects would be conferees, also affects the buying power of the budget approved by NEC.
Furthermore she avers that there is no significant change between the Conference fees paid last year and that payable this year despite inflation.
According to her, lowering the already subsidized registration fees, will affect the quality of the Conference.
She cited many incentives given by the YC Maikyau OON, SAN led NBA, geared towards encouraging participation.
She further said, even if the Conference is free, it will not increase participation but to accommodate those who cannot be physically in Abuja, can follow the Conference online.
