REPORT OF MEDIATED SETTLEMENT BETWEEN THE NIGERIA LABOUR CONGRESS AND THE LABOUR PARTY

We bring you fraternal greetings from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Labour Party (LP).
We write to inform you that the mediation initiative brokered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INC) in the dispute between the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Labour Party has been successfully consummated on the 27th of June 2022.
The consummation of the resolution is established in a TERMS OF SETTLEMENT which was willingly reached without any duress whatsoever between the two parties, the NLC and the Labour Party, and validated by the signatures of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, mni, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barr. Julius Abure, General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, mni and the National Secretary of the Labour Party, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim.
The following nominations from the NLC will be members of the board of Trustees of the Labour Party:
Comrade S.O.Z. Ejiofor – Chairman
Comrade Salisu Mohammed – Member
Comrade Lawson Osagie – Member
Comrade Najeem Yasin – Member
Other members of the Board of Trustees will be nominated as soon as possible after due consultation and the board will be inaugurated not later than one month from signing the accord.
The Ward, Local Government, State and National Convention of the Labour Party shall be convened not later than one year of the signing of this Terms of Settlement.
Immediate commencement of intensive membership drive into the Labour Party with the aim of mobilizing 10 million Nigerians into the Labour Party.
All pending cases in court related thereto are to be discontinued.
The agreement was signed on the 27th of June 2022 and was signed by the President of the Congress, the General Secretary of the Congress on the side of the NLC and the National Chairman of the Labour Party and the National Secretary of the Labour Party.     

REPORT ON THE LABOUR PARTY.
This organ of our movement will recall the decision to reposition the labour Party.
We have pursued this mandate with singleness of purpose and commitment buoyed by the understanding that he decisions on the greatest wellbeing of the Nigerian workers and the trade union movement are political.
The NLC has over the past few years engaged the leadership of the labour Party in several ways including litigations and mediation. owing to the sustained pressure, the attention of the INEC was drawn on the issues in the Labour Party and thus compelled NECis initiate a mediated settlement of the disputed issues. in a mediation process that commenced on 26th April 2022, the INEC Election Party Monitoring Committee invited institutional arbitrators from the Mediation Training Institute who midwifed mediation meetings between the NLC and the leadership of the Labour Party.
After weeks of mediation and negotiations, the process yielded a Terms of Settlement stipulating the conditions for reconciliation.
The Terms of Settlement which is largely predicated on the court judgement delivered by Justice Gabriel Kolawole on 20th March 2018 provided for the following for both the NLC and the Labour Party:
The following persons are to fill the vacancies in the NW/C of the Labour Party:
1.Comrade Ladi lliva – Deputy Chairman
2.Comrade Olorunfemi – Deputy Chairman
3. Alhaji Mohammed Umaru – Vice Chairman, North West
The nominations above are in addition to the statutory positions held by the NLC and TUC in the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party. This shall come into effect immediately after signing.
TERMS OF SETTLEMENT.
This Term of Settlement is made this 27th Day June, 2022 between the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on the one part
and
the Labour Party (LP) on the other part.
Whereas
Consequent upon the Mediation brokered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) between the NIGERIA LABOUR CONGRESS and the LABOUR PARTY which commenced on the 26th of April 2022 and at which commitments were made for an improved cordial relationship between the two parties consequent on the Court Judgement by Justice Gabriel Kolawole delivered on 20th March 2018.
Subsequent to the resolutions of the 2019 National Convention and the 2021 National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Labour Party. mandating the National Working Committee (NW/C) of the LP to fill vacant and reserved positions in the NW/C.      


It is hereby agreed as follows:
a. The following persons are to fill the vacancies in the NW/C of the Labour Party:
1. Comrade Ladi lliya – Deputy Chairman  2.Comrade Olorunfemi – Deputy Chairman
3. Alhaji Mohammed Umaru – Vice Chairman, North West
b. The nominations above are in addition to the statutory positions held by the NLC and TUC in the National Working Committee (NW/C) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party.
This shall come into effect immediately after signing.
