The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party (LP), as the winner of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senatorial seat.
INEC Returning Officer, Sanni Saka, announced the result on Tuesday in Abuja.
Mr Saka, a professor, said that Ireti scored 202,175 votes to emerge the winner, adding that Philip Aduda of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second with 100,544 votes.
WHO IS IRETI?
Ireti Kingibe is a Nigerian politician and civil engineer, was born on June 2, 1954. Ireti is 69 years old as of 2023.
Ireti is the younger sister to Ajoke Mohammed, the wife of former Nigeria head of state, Murtala Muhammed.
Ireti a divorcee, was married Baba Gana Kingibe, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation before they divorced.
POLITICAL CAREER.
Ireti joined partisan politics in 1990 when she joined the defunct Social Democratic Party(SDP). She was appointed as the Adviser to the party’s national chairman.
She was the candidate for the All Nigeria Peoples Party ANPP for the FCT senatorial election in 2003.
WHO IS PHILIP ADUDUA?
Aduda was born in Karu, FCT Abuja on 13th June 1969.
He attended Government Secondary School, Gwagwalada (1983–1987) and Kaduna Polytechnic(1987–1990) for his secondary education. Studying at the University of Jos (1990–1992) he gained a Diploma in Social works and social development.
Philip Aduda has dominated FCT political atmosphere since 1996, Aduda ran as an independent and was elected a Councilor of Karu Ward, Abuja, and held various positions on the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
2003-2011 He was elected as Member of the House of Representatives for AMAC/Bwari. 2011-2023 Senator representing FCT.
