Yes, democracy is about choice and the multi party choice we have today, was birthed by Balarabe Musa as Plaintiff and Chief Gani Senior Advocate of the Masses(SAM), his lawyer. See INEC & Anor. v. Balarabe Musa & 4 Ors. (Chief Gani Fawehenmi on behalf of National Conscience Party, was the 5th Respondent) [2003] 3 NWLR [Pt. 806] 72.
But since June 2022, the democratic space in Nigeria, is crowded with bullying.
Most of the bullying is online and they call you unprintable names, if your choice candidate is not on all fours as theirs.
If you disagree, they remove you from WhatsApp platform oh!
But reality is, most of these irritants, have never voted or participated in Nigerian Elections before 2023 and they erroneously think, democracy or winning in a democracy, is about hatred, anger and insults.
They are emergency patriots and their patriotism is tied to IT MUST BE OUR WAY, OUR CANDIDATE OR NIGERIA IS DOOMED!
Well, this trend and its bubble will burst on Feb 27, two days after the Presidential Election.
Nigerian president is the president of all Nigerians and not only those who voted for him.
He will have to work with the Opposition in NASS and most particularly, he must work with the majority, who didn’t vote for him!
So as you make enemies and think your candidate is the best, know that, the first person he will call, are those who lost against him and he will plead that they come together to build Nigeria.
So, let us tear at each other, abuse each other and think we will forgive one another after election?
