According to a notice to all members of the Bar signed by, the General Secretary of NBA, Adesina Adegbite, FCIMC, a 5 man electoral Committee has been set up to midwife an election for the newly created Nyanya-Karu Bar.
A member of the branch we spoke to, took exception to the General Secretary referring to them as “Nyanya-Karu, Lawyers’ Forum.”
He said that Nyanya-Karu Lawyers Forum had ceased to exist since June 9th when NEC stinting in Ilorin, Kwara state, created Nyanya-Karu Branch along side Garki Bar and Surulere Branch. Did NBA set Electoral Committee for these two, he thundered.
He further wondered what the General Secretary intends to achieve by this derogatory appellation.
Nyanya-Karu is a full fledged NBA Branch and her affairs must be governed by the provisions of the NBA Uniformed Bylaw and not the whims of the GS or the NBA President.
Not done, he said that, members have started paying this year’s BPF and had ticked Nyanya-Karu Branch as their local branch.
He accused the GS of using the appellation “Nyanya-Karu Lawyers Forum”, to allow non-members of Nyanya-Karu Bar, to participate in the Election and favour some candidates.
He said that the last elected Nyanya-Karu Lawyers Forum Chairman was Prince Bololo and his tenure had expired.
The right thing to do, is to conduct the affairs of the Branch in accordance with Uniformed Bylaw, particularly on who is a member and the eligibility to vote in a Branch’s election.
The notice by the GS dated 13th January reads;

NOTICE OF CONSTITUTION OF ELECTION COMMITTEE FOR THE CONDUCT OF ELECTION FOR NYANYA-KARU LAWYERS’ FORUM IN ANTICIPATION OF ITS INAUGURATION AS A BRANCH OF THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION.
I am pleased to inform you that the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN has constituted an ad-hoc electoral committee to conduct election into all elective offices of the Nyanya-Karu, Lawyers’ Forum, preparatory to its inauguration as a full-fledged Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association. The following are the names of the election committee members appointed by the President:
1. Steve Emelieze – Chairman
2. Ogechi Duruaku – Secretary
3. Yakubu Philemon – Member
4. Paul Daudu -Member
5. Clement Ojotule -Member
