Revenue Drive; Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Demands Medical Test & Training For Food Handlers

As part of means of shoring up internally generated revenue, AMAC has commended issuing of notices to operators of Gardens, Restaurants and Hotels with Municipal Area Council, demanding that they pay N13,000 per staff.
This is broken into, N6,500(Six Thousand, Five Hundred Naira)only for medical screening and certification while the other N6,500 is for annual training.
Interesting, only one lab has been given the monopoly of collecting money for the test.    Penalty for not paying within 7 days of receipt of the notice, will attract a fine of N250,000(Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) Only.

An Operator of a Garden at Orange Garden Wuse Zone 2 we spoke to, lamented that “this is too much” and “we are just coming back from Christmas/end of year holiday and have not made sales.”
He said that this is exploitative as he had earlier received a notice for FOOD AND WATER RELATED HANDLING INSPECTION AND CERTIFICATION, which he is expected to pay N90,000(Ninety Thousand Naira) Only into AMAC Revenue Account.
“Oga, how much have I made this January? If we increase prices now, customers will blame us and not patronize us again; I just tire for this Abuja. This is how they kill small, small businesses.”
The notice dated January 03, 2023 reads;
