Owerri-North 2023; OAU/Obibiezena Bloc Rejects Philip Ejiogu Insists On Uratta

In keeping with the prevailing zoning and one term arrangement for the election of House of Assembly members and chairmen of Owerri North Council, the elders and stakeholders of

Öbube/ Agbala/Ulakwo bloc have resolved firmly to move on with the rotation system which began in 1999 to ensure a rapid spread of the positions to the four geopolitical blocs in Owerri North.

This reaffirmation was made last Saturday when the stakeholders met at the residence of the political leader of the bloc, Eziopara Ben Anyanwu at his Umuchoko Egbelu Obube country home.

The meeting which was massively attended by people of the bloc recalled the decision of Owerri North Political heavyweights made under the leadership of Chief Sir Ambrose Ejiogu (Father of Philip the incumbent who wants to go for second term), at Mbari Street where it was agreed that for the purpose of equity, fairness and inclusion of all sections of the Local Government Area, that rotation was the key with one term tenure each. It further recalled that since that period, the zoning arrangement had been ingrained in the body polities of Owerri-North where the four blocs had without hitch had their turn each and now running into its second phase with  Emekuku/Emii bloc enjoying the present tenure.

The OAU/Obibiezena stakeholders who included Leader Eziopara Ben Anyanwu, the former House of Assembly member, Engr. Dan Ikpeazu, the 2023 Senatorial Candidate of Accord Party, Chief Mike Nwachukwu, Dr. Elvis Anumudu, Prof. Chris Dike, Nze Ayo Oparaocha, Chief Julian Oguike, Chief Adibenma (Ikenga Agbala), Chief Chibuzor Alaribe, Hon. Kelechi Opara, Hon. Uchenna Ekwugha and a host of others resolved that the bloc remains part and parcel of the zoning arrangement which enabled them to enjoy the support of Uratta, Alaenyi and Emekuku/Emii blocs to represent Owerri North in the House of Assembly between 2011- 2015, courtesy of Hon. Dan Ikpeazu.

Speaking on behalf of the bloc, their leader, Eziopara Ben Anvanwu emphasized that OAU/Obibiezena will not be part of any obstruction to the zoning policy as he said it has engendered peace, harmony and good political relationship among the people of Owerrl North.

He asserted that 2023 belongs to Uratta bloc and remains sacrosanch, assuring that the entire OAU/Obibiezeana elestorate will make their choice from candidates of Uratta extraction and nowhere else.

“We, of OAU/Obibiezena bloc realized that during our turn, we were heavily supported by the Uratta bloc and we owe them reciprocity of supporting them during their own turn to produce the next House of Assembly member for Owerri North. “We will do so in order to make sure that Uratta and other blocs will also give us their unalloyed support and cooperation in our future turn which is coming after Uratta in 2027, “he said.

The motion to this effect was moved by Hon. Kelechi Opara and seconded by Hon. Uchenna Ekwugha.

The House unanimously gave it a loud ‘yes’ voice vote to seal the decision. As there was no dissension to the decision, the House took it as a done deal and advised that in voting only core Uratta candidates should be voted for.

Before rising, the House agreed on the 14th of January 2023 to convoke a meeting of Owerri North people to formally convey their decision to them.
